Good evening all, could anyone enlighten me to what this hole is for?
My initial thought was the original position of the semaphores unit?

Someone has drilled a hole for a switch maybe, not a standard factory feature. Hide it with a blanking grommet.

Battery cut-off switch?

PO of mine added on in a sim position albeit under the dash out of sight. Didnt find it until after i added one to the battery earth terminal!!

Asking because my car has the same hole in same position. So definitely not semaphore hole. Thanks

Never a standard position for anything.
These cars have been around for 70+ years, the majority of them have had a number of owners well into double figures some of which will have had strange idea of what they fitted and where they put it.
Just get a black blind grommet to fill it in, the odds of you finding out the purposed of whatever switch was in there are remote.

You might try looking behind the dash for any non standard wiring and should you find any tracing it around the car, but it's unlikely.

A PO has fitted a switch for something and a subsequent PO has decided that it was a bad idea so removed it.

Remember stick on heated rear window demisters? That's the sort of thing it might have been used for.

Yes I do. Thinking about retro fitting something in it that ties in with the age of car, going for the patina'd preserved look if that makes sense

I speak from experience when I say it is easy to leave the indicator on accidentally.
Perhaps you could double up on the indicator light ?
