Brake pedal return spring?

I have been flushing all the old brake fluid through today and was going to adjust the free play out of the m/c to pedal and noticed there is a small locating hole at the bottom end of the pedal arm.
It looks like there was possibly a return spring? due in there but I can't see where it would have been attached to on the other end.
I should mention that the lower half of the chassis rail was rusted away in this area and I have just finished welding new metal in but I didn't see any form of bracket in there when I cut all the rust out.
Could anyone help with any info please?

Many thanks

Graham

This is where my spring is attached, it’s a van chassis but a saloon should be similar

Many thanks indeed for that Les.
Mine is also a van and that is exactly where the chassis had all but disappeared along the bottom.
It's a little bit difficult to make it out exactly, but is that some sort of tab welded to the bottom please?

Thanks again

Graham.

Something like this from memory. If you can’t weld it in, you could drill a hole in the base, mid way, with corresponding hole in the chassis, and maybe a 5/16 nut and bolt to secure. If you did it that way, I’d suggest you didn’t fully tighten until the spring was attached, so as the bracket positions itself radially, then fully tighten.

That's absolutely brilliant, thank you so much Les.
I'll do exactly that as I dont think my welding torch will reach down there in that small gap.

Graham.
