We own a 1968 Traveller which is in good shape but always requires attention of some sort somewhere, which is fine.
I’m now turning my attention to the underfloor area at the back. I’ve got the spare wheel properly stowed and secured, but I’m not sure about the Jack and brace, and I’m particularly struggling with the cover I’ve just bought. It’s very flimsy and has one reinforced long edge, but I’ve no idea which way up it goes or how it’s secured. I’ve found a reference in one of my books about wooden guides for the cover, but there’s nothing there on my car and there’s no photos to help.
Can anyone assist with a description of what’s supposed to be there - better still a photo - please!

The metal strip should be at the top. The cover is only hardboard and serves no real useful purpose - just covers the spare wheel compartment when the doors are open. Each rear pillar should have a strip of wood screwed to it and the board slides downwards between them and is then secured.
If the rear pillars have been replaced, the guides were probably not replaced. They can easily be made - or purchased from those suppliers who stock new timber frames etc.

Mine has al channel strips at the ends, slides up and under an aluminum extrusion strip that runs the width of the car and is held in place by interference at each bottom corner. PO has put velcro behind just to make sure. Guessing now this isnt original?

I don't remember one of these on the traveller I used to have - did they all have them?

The Smoke Grey Traveller pictured above shows exactly as they were supplied originally.

I guess the one on mine had got lost then!
