Hi, My car is a "58" but for whatever reason it's on a "B 1964" plate apparently it was on the Isle of Wight when new and it's certainly spent a lot of it's life around the Southampton area, I would like ultimately to get an age related plate for it but have no idea how to go about it or even if it's possible. Any ideas would be welcome.

Do you happen to know the original licence plate that the car had when it was new? You can fill out a V765 and send that off to the DVLA to have the original plate restored, but its quite a long winded process as you need to have solid proof that the car did in fact have that original plate on it.

I've taken a quick look on the gov.uk guidance (https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/old-vehicles), but nothing on there stands out.

Might be best contacting the DVLA to see what they suggest, or see if any other members have any suggestions

DVLA are a PITA when it comes to this sort of thing. They seem to give themselves exemption to their own rules when they feel like it.
It is an offence under the vehicle licensing Regs to make a vehicle seem younger than it is by giving it a later plate, ie by you putting a cherished reg plate on it.
Age Related plates didn't exist until the 1990s and in the history of my '55 it got given an A Plate when it's reg was 'Cherished' transferred.
But in '99 the then owner managed to get that removed and an AR issued.
I'm led to understand that DVLA will no longer do that, their argument being that the A Plate has been issued by them and therefore does not come under the regulation forbidding the fitting of a 'younger' plate by an owner under the 'cherished' system.....

I would contact them and see if you can get a helpful person, there are some hiding there.....
