Rattling door handles

I have a 1960 2 door and a 1952 convertible, and all four door handles rattle like mad as there is quite a lot of play on the handle pivot. I seem to recall that there was a way to replace the pivot pin to cure this, but having checked through old 'Technical Tips' and done a search here, have drawn a blank. Replacement may be the only option as all the handles have the Mazak 'acne'. I would welcome any suggestions.

My 2 door is 1969 so later than yours, but I think the door fittings may be the same.
I found when rebuilding my car that the springs inside the interior handle mechanism were broken allowing the handle to rattle around loosely.
I found this company in Austria that makes a replacement version which stopped them rattling in my car. They were friendly and helpfully for me spoke English too!

Thanks for that which is a useful link. I think those springs are for the interior handles whereas my problem is with the exterior ones which move up and down and rattle.

I don't know if 2 door is different to 4 door, but my handle rattle was due to broken spring pin, see post

Many thanks. That may be a simple fix. I will not know for certain until I take the handle out.

The outside door handles are sprung on mine(63). Quite a common failure and it would be a mot failure as it allows the handle to protrude when driving along. It's not often spotted though by testers as mine passed before another owner pointed it out to me

Having researched this a bit more, it seems the return springs are only fitted to the 4 door models, and not on the 2 doors/convertibles. The handle assemblies for 2 doors and 4 doors are different and not interchangeable. It would seem that the pivots are worn on mine, which is why they are loose and rattle up and down. My question would be whether replacement pivot pins/handles would sort this out or is it the handle mechanism body which wears, necessitating full replacement? Replacement pins are available from ESM which might suggest the former is the problem.

ESM will be rebuilding my doors. I will try to remember to ask them about this. My handles are OK I think but the window falls down of its own accord by about an inch when going over bumps.

I found that new window channels either side stiffened up the glass movement nicely, but the steel lower channel can come adrift. I replaced mine with a stainless one, greased everything and all works well. But still those bloody door handles rattle up and down!
