Condenser....again.

Wouldn't start, the starter motor was strong, plenty of battery power, the in line fuel filter showed petrol, still no spark. Happened to me a few years ago, lucky I had a spare condenser in the tin, bit of a fiddle in an awkward place, but an easy fix. She's running sweetly again. Here's the old one on the way to the bin.

I always carry a set of points and condenser. Easy fix and usually you can gap the new points approximately just get home, or to a better place than the side of the road.
I once fixed a dead Transit van on Dartmoor with points and condenser fitted and adjusted with a pocket knife.

As ever, I recommend fitting Distributor Doctor points and condensor, and you may as well also carry these as spares, on the basis that nothing lasts forever and anyway they are not going to break the bank as extra insurance for peace of mind.
Once you have done it several times with a feeler gauge, it is possible to set the points gap by eye, though a feeler gauge is hardly expensive or going to take up much space in your tool kit.

About a year ago I popped in to see Martin of Distributor Doctor with two of their condensors that were behaving strangely. His engineer put them on the test rig and they passed at second attempt. Both were replaced without hesitation. Martin explained that they had a few in a batch a couple of years ago that were unreliable. The replacements were their new and improved design with a yellow wire. They have been excellent in the Midget and the pickup. I can’t fault their customer service or their products and have recommended them to many friends with minis, Land Rovers, Wolseleys and Healeys. You certainly get what you pay for! Quality and reliability with good service.
