Oh Bum
It would appear that I will need to replace the drivers side of the
crossmember.
I thought I could get away with patching it but I appear to be the 47th person to have thought this and so a new panel is required
I've taken the brakeline out already and just wonder when I cut out the crossmember what else I ought to keep an eye out for?. Floor obviously but what else?. The main chassis leg looks ok inside but I'll hoover it out and check further.
I'll take the torsion bar out now and see what else I find.

RE: Crossmember end
Best would be to remove engine and gearbox to reduce the weight on the legs. Then stand the middle of both chasis legs on axle stands and jack 'evenly' at the front and rear (4 jacks). This way you stand a good chance that the leg wont move when you fee up one end.
This of course is in an ideal world! (and I never went as far as that, when doing one)
In reality, do as much as you can to keep the leg from moving when the old crossmember is cut out,but if the rest of the car is solid (not made of 40 other patches and cover sills etc..) then its is lower risk.
