Convertible hood

I call our a convertible because it is a conversion...

At the back of the rear window there are two fastenings, one inside and one outside. On our hood the inside one is a popper and the outside is fixed with a screw.

Is one supposed to undo both before lowering the hood in which case should they both be poppers? Or in practice doesn't it really matter?

I heave memories of tearing the hood on my older brother's car many years ago, he mentioned it only the other day...

The inside one should be a conventional type snap that holds the inner flap in place. The outside one should be a Lift-A-Dot type. This is undone so the fabric can lay flatter in preparation to be folded for the hood cover. Then the cover is secured with the same Lift-A-Dot stud.

I'd describe the outside, fixed, fastening as a "peg" onto which the hood's Lift-the-Dot plate clips. If the OP's hood is screwed to the window frame, this is wrong.
