I have come across a four door saloon (rotten) and was hoping to use it as a donor for a pickup.
I was told it had a midget 3.9 diff.
Engine number is 12V923FHZ008952
I believe it’s a 1275 but want to know which electronic ignition system to buy.
Thanks

Re: Engine numbers (again)
The problem with engine numbers is they changed systems occasionally. At least it doesn't seem to be a recon as they can be impossible to simply decode and need part numbers checking.
I believe 1970 was the change point, after that, 12V was simply the 1275 for 'vertical' RWD application. 12H would be 'Horizontal' or Transverse fit.
But earlier than 1970, a 12V was a 1275 fitted in a Van den Plas...
More than likely it's the post 1970 version.

Re: Engine numbers (again)
Originally the 12V engine was not fitted with electronic ignition. Therefore you can fit what ever electronic ignition system you choose.
I use a Lumenition Optronic Ignition system with a Lumenition coil.
The system has given good service and starts every time on the button.

Re: Engine numbers (again)
Your choice of electronic ignition will be governed by the distributor fitted to that engine and the polarity of the car it is going in.

So just a case of browse the various brands and decide on the one you want .
For example just 2 of the several options available.

Ok that’s a Lucas 59D4
The best electronic ignition imho is Lumenition Optronic as recommended by Phill and also what I have. Rather expensive unfortunately. Failing that consider Petrtronix Ignitor as recommended by Distributor Doctor. If buying the Optronic, the fitting kit is purchased separately according to the distributor model.

Re: Engine numbers (again)
The distributer shown in the photo is as fitted to the 1275cc 'A' Plus engine.
That is the distributer as fitted to my Minor but suitably doctored/modified by Aldon to suit the engine specification. It also as referred to above has the Lumenition Optronic ignition fitted to it.
Fitting the Optronic system is very easy and whilst not cheap I consider it to be one of the best if not the best electronic ignition systems around.
