OK, so bought a convertible, its G reg as v5 says it was previously overseas, so that's first UK reg.

The vin plate, which looks front stamped not rear stamped says MA2S5 xxxxxxxx. It has all the characteristics of a dual personality minor, clap hand, old switches etc, and the number part corresponds to a 1963. So I thought maybe a 2 door saloon conversion.

I have a body number Zyyyyy from the strip plate on the near side bulk head.

I thought I'd get a heritage certificate for more info. They are saying the numbers are correct, but for MAT5 1963 factory tourer.

The curved strengthens at the front dash and b post strentheners look spot welded, and there's no evidence in the boot of a headlining etc.

So lots of questions.. Do I presume the heritage certificate is correct (it appears to me to be so) and if it is can I simply ask Dvla to change it? Or is this opening a can of worms?

I can't see any other numbers stamped near the starter unit, or on the tie plate.

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve. I would think that if the V5 matches what you have then what do you need to change. I had to reregister my traveller after spending 10 years in France. Even though it was straight forward the DVLA asked for stupid information that seemed to have no reasoning behind them. Don't forget, the people working there were not born when these cars were made and the questioning is aimed at modern boxes. Ask them the question, you won't get into trouble.

You ask what I'm trying to achieve! Well I guess just to satisfy an obsession not to have inconsistencies. I would be happiest if the vin and v5 and the heritage certificate all agreed.

(Of course I also want the horn button to work as it's meant to.. amongst other things. )

Thanks for the clarification. Would I be right in assuming you just want the number on the V5 to match the Heritage number that is the same as on your car. If so give DVLA an email to ask if you can correct the number as it is incorrect. I am sure they would help. They may ask for proof but you have that.

I had an issue with my V5C, where due to an inept Garage, the engine Serial number was correct but wrongly documented as 948cc, when it was a 1098cc.
I used the Club DVLA Liaison services to get a letter making a slam-dunk case at the first contact with DVLA, rather than have them start a game of Ping-Pong by snail mail.
All was resolved very quickly.
