To increase the free movement of the clutch pedal, screw the adjusting nut towards the front of the car.
To decrease the free movement of the pedal, screw the nut towards the rear of the car.

I don't know which model you have but with the 948cc model (and I think the 803cc) the free play should be 3/4 inch. The 1098 cc model is about 1 and 3/8 inches. If your pedal is 'biting' high up, it suggests that the free play is not enough so, yes, moving the nut towards the front of the car would increase the free play. But measure the free play on the pedal first and see what it measures and then adjust accordingly

Yes getting the free play is the aim, so whichever way you make the adjustment, the distance ( whatever for your particular model) is measured from the pedal at rest to when you feel resistance when pushing downwards. What is the distance now, out of interest?

From the picture it looks to be an hydraulic clutch conversion/operation?
A totally different kettle of fish to the original direct mechanical linkage.
