Floor restoration required

Post by djmeadows »

I have a 1957 Minor, which past it`s MoT soon after I bought it 2 years ago. Last year it failed it`s test and I was told that it needed major welding work undrneath. Having now built up some enthusiasm to get the car roadworthy again I enquired at another garage who thought at first they could fix things easily. They have now told me today that it will cost about £600 to sort out one side, floor and inner wing, to get it through the test and recommend that I should have both sides done. I don`t quite know what to do now, could anyone advise me and is there a garage to recommend in the North West area, I live in Widnes.

I can't recommend a local specialist in the North West (I'm sure someone on here will) but their quote does seem a bit high considering that some specialists are still offering to replace the whole floor, sills & crossmember for £1000. Using a local garage often means a higher bill as you pay for them to learn how repair a minor. :-?

I wish one of the £1000 specialists were near to me. I would happily take out a bank loan for that sum to rebuild my 4-door. Somehow I think no-one could sort it for £1000 without losing serious money!

Well, maybe Staffordshire Minors can help. They are the people that advertise the underbody replacement for £1000. They advertise in the club magazine 'Minor Matters' and are located just outside of Market Drayton (Shropshire). They are about 60 miles from Widnes. Don't know if this is too far?
