Sidevalve Dynamo pulley broken. help!

Post by peteatreat »

Good morning

I wonder if anyone can help.

The fan/bladed part of the Dynamo pulley has come apart and despite enquiries at ESM, MMOC spares and local club groups, I have had no luck. I attach some images of the broken part which is a one-piece item for the ‘wide’ fan belt without water pump. There is a number 31367 stamped on the pulley. The last image shows where it has detached. Any help in locating one would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Peter

Bad luck. Are there any workarounds you could do until you can find the correct pulley? For instance using a later dynamo pulley and a narrow fan belt. Not ideal of course. The dynamo shaft and keyway are standard Lucas so I wonder whether the pulley was used on a variety of different marques and models......With the later dynamos it is certainly the case that the pulley goes with the type of dynamo rather than anything specific to the car. Weirdly, dynamo pulleys are quite hard to find on their own even for the much later cars and the way I have found one is to buy a scrap dynamo complete with pulley.

Is the same pulley used on the Morris 8 engine? Maybe the Morris register could help.

Thanks Stephen.
We are looking at maybe welding it, but as it is alloy, it will probably require a specialist to do it. Thank you for your suggestion.
