New clutch sounds like a bag of spanners

Hi all
I have just fitted a rebuilt engine to my 1098 moggy complete with a new clutch and linkage the engine is running fine but the clutch operation sounds terrible and you can feel a vibration through the pedal. I thought it might bed in but after about twenty miles it seams to be getting worse. The pedal is all so very heavy. The new linkage is free and moves and returns fine.
Any Ideas I have had the unit out twice already and am starting to get down hearted with the whole things.
Thanking you all in advance desperate from Handsacre.
Best regards MickR

Is the pedal free play adjusted properly?

I have just fitted a new clutch. According to the manual the free play at the pedal should be between 1.25 and 1.5" inches. However, we now have to work with the parts that are supplied to us that may not be identical to the originals. I found that setting up my new clutch as per the manual caused the release bearing to "overthrow" causing a nasty noise on full clutch pedal depression. I made some adjustments to the free play (increased a bit) and everything is fine now. I know it's annoying but you may have to adjust, try and adjust again. Remember that once you get it all set up it will be fine for 1,000s of miles so the effort is worth it.
