Engine Identification

Post by Jaybeee1 »

Hi all MMOC members

I have picked up a 1275 engine for my Morris Minor and I am struggling to find exactly what the engine is from. From what I can see I have a 1275 A+ engine but not sure if it is Marina/Ital or an MG engine. Distributor is a "Y" clamp, Extra Ribbing on block by distributer, Six bolt crank/flywheel and possibly what should be the easiest to workout what’s what the Engine Number "12V96ELGO24752".

I have searched the internet and on the forum without much success.

Thanks in advance

This is an Ital block, the oil filter is in a different location than the Midget.

Phill might know from the engine number but like you I cannot find anything on the internet to narrow things down. 12 is 1275 and V is for vertical or inline but you knew that already. The numbers/letter like 12V and 12H were used after about 1970 to denote vertical or horizontal. Some photographs would help. If you edit the photo, say by cropping a little bit, then the photos will upload the right way up. Otherwise they tend to end up sideways. MG Midget would be 12CC or 12 CE or after 1972 12V/586F according to this list: https://www.mginfo.co.uk/upgrades4mgs/f ... umbers.pdf

So, is this an Ital block? When you say it's in a different position mine looks in a similar to the photo you have attached what do you think? It’s not a great photo I’m afraid.

The engine in question is a 1275cc 'A' Plus engine as originally fitted to a Morris/BL Ital.
