The metal channel that sits on the bottom of the doors and retains the rubber weather strip is now available from ESM. It's been unobtainable for some time.

I had one delivered yesterday, looks good to me.

Is the seal on the bottom of the door needed when there is already a seal on the inside of the door?
ie Door Rubber Seal Strip (4" Up from Base of Door)

Sometimes it can be hard to fathom out what does what, but basically the one you mention, ESM EXC110, which required the clips(EXC112A) and the length of metal(EXC140) was originally called 'Excluder - Draught' to keep the wind from blowing in; but the one on the underside of the door, was 'Rubber - Sealing' presumably to keep rain and surface spray from getting in.

After door repairs in the dim and distant past, my car's doors don't have the channel fitted for the latter.

ESMs system of coding all such items 'EXC', presumably relating to 'Excluder', doesn't help identify what parts do.

There is a school of thought that the strips on the underside of the door are a rust trap and best left off......

Yes, I'd heard that, so not on my 'to-do' list at the moment.
The doors don't fit that well anyway, so perhaps in a few years I might investigate....
