Timing Gear Crank Packing Washer / Shim

I am rebuilding my 1098 engine and have bought a duplex timing chain from ESM.
When checking the camshaft drive sprocket and the crank sprocket alignment I find there is a 35 thou difference with the camshaft sprocket sprocket sticking out further which would obviously wear the chain quickly.
The engine already has two x 6 tho shims on the crank so that equates to 47 thou difference which is quiet a lot so am surprised to find this.
I swapped back the original single chain gear to check again and all is good with that one with the two shims and it aligns spot on indicating the crank, camshaft etc etc is all OK
I have installed a new camshaft triangle as the old one was worn and the thrust washers on the crank are correct way round.
Crankshaft endfloat is 5 thou and camshaft is 3 thou so should be fine there. Even these endfloats would not explain the 47 thou difference.
I have tripple checked the two sprockets seat correctly up against the crank and camshaft with the nuts tightened.
Someone else had a similar issue a few years ago - see the thread below and they ended up buying a extra thick shim (40 thou / 1mm) to solve the issue.

I am just wondering if the duplex kit is not to the best specification - but again ESM have a good reputation so would be surprised.
Thoughts anyone as I may have use a 1mm shim or revert to original single chain ???
