That is a Lucas "Windtone" horn. WT618 I think.
If you search you will find videos and guides to disassembly and repair.
Usually the only fault is dirty contact breakers (points) or need for adjustment of the points gap. It is worth checking the resistance of the coil.

Thank you. One last question, if I want to test it can I put 12v directly to it, obviously reversing the polarity, or does it some how get converted down to 6v?

Itβs 12 volt and it does not care about polarity. Do not leave the power connected if it does not immediately work as if the points are closed you could burn out the coil.

If this link works, you will find maintenance instructions for your horn.

Be careful when you attack the horn itself as it is made of a cast alloy which is prone to cracking and can be a bit powdery. The gubbins under the dome with the central bolt are fairly simple.

beware the horn sounds very loud when bench testing. I had one wired up as a doorbell once but it made me jump every time someone was at the door!

How is best to clean the cast alloy please?

Gently with the usual paper but knocks or heavy pressure can cause damage. The domed back. from memory, is steel.
