Hi all,bit of help if you can. I have just put a new throttle cable on my SU carb and the weight of the pedal keeps pulling the cable and this operates the throttle mechanism on the carb. I have temporary put a spring on to hold the mechanism back,but have I missed something. The spring luckily holds the mechanism ok but don't want it as a permanent fixture. Before I changed the old cable everything was ok and I only changed the cable because the outer cover was all split. Any help buddies!

I meant to add the car is a 1098 (1968) with a HS2 SU fitted as standard

There's 2 'return springs' on the carburettor one for the Choke and one for the Throttle....
I don't understand how the old throttle cable was working if there wasn't one....

Maybe the OP forgot to reconnect the throttle return spring after fitting the new cable?

Hello all, problem solved. After much scouring around under the bonnet I noticed a bracket attached to the manifold and have assumed a spring must have done a moonlight flit when I changed the cable. Also I noticed the little tab on the throttle linkage was missing and I can only assume the last owner must have attached the spring to the cable lock nut. Luckily I have a few spare carbs so have replaced the tab and the spring from my spares mountain and I can say everything is hunky dory and Daisy is back up and running. Cheers everyone.

So Daisy's throttle return spring 'did a moonlight', rather than you forgetting to attach it? Well, not the first time some part has mysteriously disappeared while doing a job! Its happened to most of us at some time, I guess. Good news is its fixed - and an easy fix too.......we like them! Happy motoring!
