I've just got my nice shiny new Rear fog lamp (and I hope a reversing lamp is on it's way too).
Nice all-chrome finish from ESM, and it's got a 10mm dia thread on it.
I'm probably going to just go throught the boot floor, but I wanted to check if there are any regulations concerning the position of the lamp. (I know there are for Front fogs, but my nice '72 book of the car doesn't mention rear ones!
Thanks
Nikki
Fog Lamps... How did you do yours???

RE: Fog Lamps... How did you do yours???
The centres have to be within "x" mm of the side of the car. I think it's 400, will check at home tonight. There's also a restriction on height. Rather than drilling the boot floor, I made a simple angled bracket that fitted over the bumpr mounting bar. The lamp is then below the bumper and meets the regulations. Note that there must be a warning lamp on the dashboard (illuminated switch) and the lamp can operate only when dipped beam headlamps are on - take the feed from the blue and red wire from the dipswitch, but via a separate fuse. The lamps from ESM are excellent. If mounting externllly, then put some sealant in the top of the threaded bit to stop water & muck getting in.

Great
I'm getting a professional loom made up so I'm hoping that it'll all be included in the loom (the correct wiring that is!)
I'm going to put a reversing light on the left and fog lamp on the right, so under the bumpers sounds good. The only worry there is the wiring between car and bumper. :/

Hi Nikki,
The Statutory instrument is http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_1.htm
For once, it appears quite clear and readable.
I understand that anywhere between the centerline and the offside of the car is ok, less than 1000mm above the road, and more than 100mm from the brake light.
I haven't spotted Simmitc's requirement about "only with dipped headlights" - our Colt is fitted with front fog lamps (sidelights + foglamps + rear fog but without headlamps apparently is OK)
All the best,
Colin

Hi Colin
Actually, thinking about it, the wiring isn't going to be tackled by me. I'm just going to be drilling the holes to site them
- I hope the electrical wiz I've got lined up can do it all
It's going to be... interesting. I've got a standard loom but with lots of extra toys made up too so I can run an inverter when required, mp3 player, additional lights etc

Nikki,
Maybe you should invest in a portable generator as well. Then you can run 240v mains sound system!
I would suggest that you take the wiring out along the bumper supports - only one grommet (per side) to worry about.
You could fit a combined reversing/fog lamp to each side (if they are still made - they don't look "period minor") I always find that one reversing light's always on the wrong side....
I was thinking of an MP3 player, but decided that as I already have one (you know, the small personal player type) all I need is a car radio which has an Aux input - see Blue Spot - Dresden for the type)
Don't forget the GPS!
looks like I'm fitting brake cylinders tomorrow
I managed to shear the bleed nipples yesterday.

I've got "issues" with the current alternator setup (or will have) but I've already got the GPS in the pipeline as I can't pronounce welsh village names very well!
SPV M2000 with copilot and a GPS reciever. Champion!

Nikki,
It's easy to get the hang of Welsh names - my Dad taught me how do do that. The same letters always have the same sound; the tricky bits are the "ll" - "chl"; "f" = "v"; "ff" = "f"; "w" = "u".
Unfortunately that didn't help me went I was with my wife's family in Fife. There's a place nearby "Lochgelly" - well I got the "loch" right, but failed on the "gelly" 'cos I used the Welsh.........
And I still haven't lived that one down
All together noe "LLanfaipwllgwyngethgogerich ..llantsylyogogogoch " well i can't remember the middle bit.
