Early wheels

I read somewhere that the early wheels with the hole for brake adjustment were dropped due to structural (?) failure. I may have mis-remembered this.
Anyway, our very late MM is an 'assemblage' of bits dating from most years of production. It has a couple of these wheels on it.
Shall I work on the basis that if they've lasted this long they will be OK or should I be conscious of them in some way?

Don't worry about them if they are OK. I have them on my car and they are fine. Lasted for decades. Plus you can adjust the brakes without taking the wheels off

The cracking of the MM and early SII wheels was around the mounting holes and not, AFAIA, anything to do with the brake adjuster hole.
The brake adjuster hole just seems to have disappeared with the arrival of the S3/1000 in '56.
I would say that any wheel with a brake adjuster hole which has survived until now is going to be fine.

I've fitted 8" drums to the front of my 1956 s2. Annoyingly the hole in the drum doesn't quite align with the hole in the (original) wheels.
Adjusting is still possible, but the screwdriver has to go in at an angle.

I must admit that I never use the holes in the wheels to adjust the brakes. I prefer to remove the wheel and the brake drum to have a look at the cylinders, check that they are operating freely and to clean out the dust and dirt that forms from brake usage. With the wheels removed it is also a good excuse to lubricate the front swivels while you are there

I've got the latter wheels on Basil too.
I suspect they may have come from the donor car (a later Traveller) when he refurbished/restored around 1999.
That appears to have been when the 1098 engine, 8" Front Brakes and chrome windows (perhaps even the complete doors

) were fitted.
