Crankshaft bush

How to remove this bronze bush from the crankshaft, I’ve heard it can be removed by filling with grease, then inserting an interference fit rod and giving it a sharp blow, a sort of hydraulic pressure forcing the bush out. Maybe a suitable size tap screwed in might be a better method, any views on this ?

I understand from previous posts that bread is a better medium than grease.
A tap screwed into the bush and then replaced with piece of threaded bar passed through a suitable socket with a washer and nut. Tighten the nut and the bush is pulled from the crankshaft.

Thanks Phil, I ask as I’m preparing for the possible need at some point. The latter option would be my preference.

I generally use the bread dough method and have very occasionally used grease as the medium. Bread is often less messy.

I have used the threading method but rarely - most bearings are too hard to cut a thread.🙂 Using the threaded rod as a slide hammer can also be an option.

Depends on the situation - just pick the best that suits the purpose.

The BL repair manual for the Marina/Ital fitted with the 1098cc engine states that the spigot bush should be tapped using a 9/16" UNF tap then screw the appropriate part of adapter set Pt No: AFG 284 AAF into the spigot bush. Attach Pt No: 18G284 to the adapter and impulse extract the defective bush.
A needle roller bearing can be fitted as a service replacement. Use 18G1333 to fit.
Fit the new spigot bush ensuring that the end is flush with the crankshaft counterbore.
