Gasket help

Hi all

I'm about to rebuild my 1957 948 engine after re work.

I've read somewhere that some gaskets should be soaked in oil overnight. Please could someone tell me if it's just the sump gaskets, or are there others that require the same treatment?

Thanks in advance :D

"I've read somewhere that some gaskets should be soaked in oil overnight."

Where is the "somewhere"?

If I knew then I wouldn't be asking on here.

Yes, it has been advised on this forum to soak the cork sump gaskets in oil overnight. The other sump gaskets (the bits that go along the sides) just to be greased. The most important part of the sump fitting is to trim the cork gaskets to the correct length.

As well as cutting the cork end seals to the right length the ends must be cut square otherwise the ends of the cork end seals will not seal.
