I insure three cars and always ask the insurance company to include recovery.

Something tells me this may not be the best way of going about things.

Two vehicles are 'classic', a camper and the MM. They are with Adrian Flux. I have no idea who their recovery business is with.

The so called 'modern' Skoda is with Dial Direct. I think they use the RAC

Any recommendations or relevant experiences? I assume changes would need to be done at renewal?

For example, is there a company that covers the driver for recovery whatever they may be driving?

I believe the AA will cover you regardless of which vehicle, even if a passenger. I don't know if this is still available or its cost but worth a look on their website

Personal breakdown cover
Personal breakdown cover means an individual is covered in any eligible vehicle, both as a driver and a passenger. With the RAC, you can buy personal cover for up to 5 people living in the same household.

I have AA cover called "AA Personal" that covers me regardless of the car I am driving or travelling in as a passenger. It also covers "up to 3 people you live with". So that could be wife and children for instance.

Thanks for the info regarding 'Personal' types of arrangements. Need to check that they cover both classics and classic campers.

I know Morris Minors never break down so I guess it is pointless asking here about how they got on when recovery or repair was needed?

I have R.A.C. personal cover which is good for my daily car and the Minor (no vehicle age limit), also as a passenger in anothr car.
I opt for the "almost full house" of at home, roadside and national recovery. It's reasonably priced because of using Tesco Clubcard vouchers added when renewing.
I can't comment on how good or bad they are now, but I did use them many years ago, when the Minor broke down, and it was good service.
I might have to test them in the near future though - see "Engine Stopped"!
A previous insurer included "free" breakdown cover as part of the Minor's policy. That was only basic roadside assistance away from home, hence the R.A.C. in addition.

I now get ours with the car insurance as you seem to pay a lot less as long as you pick the right option to suit you.

Likewise, I use RH Insurance. Found Footman James to be expensive & not very flexible.

Hi all l used to use the R A C but cancelled my policy after the left me on a motorway after my clutch went .there reason was they had no vehicle to recover me home l even phoned the police to tell them l was on the motorway they phoned them but got the same answer and was to that the rac told us to get our own recovery truck .and was left 26hrs no food nothng to drink that is how they treat you just look at the reviews of the rac and make up your own mind !
