Anyone know of a Smiths style time clock that will fit in 52mm dash hole but be self contained battery powered. I would like to fit a clock that matches a Smiths 52mm temperature gauge but I use a battery cut off when car is not used. Thanks

You could wire the clock (with a fuse) to the non cut off side of the battery as an alternative option?

I had one in my previous traveller - it was almost like a pocket watch but had a silicone rubber ring around it is it slotted into an instrument mount. I think I found it on the Bay of E. I'm afraid I can't remember the make - most likely Far Eastern of course but it was pretty reliable and lasted a long time. Try searching something like 'panel mounting clock'?

If you search ebay for vintage car clock you will get all sorts, a possible lateral way of thinking about this is to purchase a clockwork car clock.
Of course they use no power and usually have a 7-8 day life before they need winding up again.
I have been buying and repurposing clocks of various mechanical varieties for some time, (keeps me out of trouble) and they are generally pretty reliable, they can also really look the part.

I wouldn't advise buying those that Mr Spigot linked to. They are too small for a standard 2"/52mm hole in spite of the rubber "grommet". Only takes one bump in the road or similar they fall out. How do I know?

I also suspect that would be too small. The back has a 45mm diameter which means, for a 52mm "hole" it requires at least 7mm total adding to that diameter using the rubber "grommet".
However, at that price, might be worth a try?
