Another one saved - an update.

A garage find in Sumerhill Road in Saffron Walden. A 1961 Series III 2 door Saloon was put away in a wooden garage 30 years ago by its owner, Simon.
He was looking to sell the land and garage and Tony bought the car, spending 5 weeks on the brakes, carb, new petrol tank - the old one was full of sludge and because the tyres were now almost square and the wheel rims had rusted away, I loaned him my spare set - It is now on a new set of wheels tyres.

Before doing that, he had to cut away the ivy on the doors and, moving the car on a trolley jack he had to cut back the trees which had grown through the side of the garage

Although it has some surface rust, the car is very solid and the interior is in very good condition indeed.

Today was ā€œD’ Day and with its previous owners present, the car left the garage for the first time in three decades - and under its own steam. Neddy went down to offer moral support. Tony has taken it home to start work on the body work and engine / bay as well as replacing all the hoses and rubber bushes.

That does not look bad at all considering its' 30-year hibernation. Great stuff :tu1: :)

Yes, they are increasingly rare. No pics of the interior so let's hope no-one has meddled with the harmonious symmetry of the dashboard in the past and that the new owner will respect its originality.

Very nice! Rather like my tourer. Completely unmolested but a bit "scabby" in places. I like that originality.

Looks in great order all things considered. That's the sort of 'barn find' you dream of. Good to know there are still a few out there hidden away in garages and sheds but they must be getting less and less. Hopefully the car will receive a sympathetic recommission and keep the patina.

The carpet is grubby but should scrub up. Seat straps need renewing but the leather is very good as are the for cards, Parcel shelf and heater shroud are great. Glove boxes and inner lids like new. Headlining also good. Door pulls need renewing.
