Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying so hard to get 'Muriel' back to her former glory and, with that, trying to piece all the information about here together. Muriel is a 1957 four door.
On Muriel's heritage certificate it says the spec is RHD, Home Market, De-Luxe. Can anyone tell me what makes her De-Luxe, or are they all the same. She's not looking so 'De-Luxe' right now I might add.
I have a "deluxe" tourer. I am not sure what all the differences are but some of them are:
1) A heater when a heater was not standard
2) Swing out ashtrays under the parcel shelf
3) A chrome ashtray on the transmission tunnel for the rear passengers

1969 1098cc Convertible “Xavier” which I have owned since 1989.
The specs for 'de-luxe' varied over the years. I think for a 1957 model, de-luxe included leather seats, over riders and a second sun-visor. May be a heater as well.
Good luck with the project; I can see there is much to do but at least Morris Minors enjoy good parts supply. I think the seats should be the same as Series 2, for 1957 (The front seats have a squarer back rest from 1958 onwards). I think the best way is to get the structure/body sorted first, then the mechanical bits can be done, with trim/wiring last.
When the engine (And whilst it is out, the gearbox and clutch) are all done and other work is being done (The front wings will need to come off to be repaired and what is behind can be checked), it is a good idea to turn the engine over, every couple of weeks, if only to ensure that the same valve springs are not compressed all the time. If the engine is not re fitted, this can be done by turning the crank pulley or flywheel (If the spark plugs are only loosely fitted, with little effort). If brakes etc are all connected up, it's a good idea to release the handbrake and pump the pedal a few times. It is better to chock the wheels, rather than store it with the hand brake on.
I did wonder how I should look after the engine once it was rebuilt and waiting to go back in.
None of the brakes are working, but again, I now know how to look after them once sorted.
I'm in the process of trying to sort out the registration and engine. I'm dropping the crank, block and head to the engineer on Wednesday and need to wait to see what he say's before going any further.
I have a May 1957 4 door in CG and it is as original in appearance as I can make it. (still after some Dunlop D75 500 -520/14 crossply tyres though...). If you need photos or a dekko, feel free to contact me.
