Hi there

Does anyone have any tips at fitting the cork gaskets either end of the sump please.

They seem much wider than the groove. I’ve greased them, pressed them in a vice and still they are very tough to get in. I’m worried poking them will put holes in them. The previous seals were some sort of hardened rubber ones which sat flush and I suspect were the cause of a leak.

The gasket is the wrong way round. The thinner edge goes in the groove in the sump. The seals will need trimming to Length as per the manual. The correct length is critical to get a proper seal.

Thanks Stephen. I was concerned I’d got the wrong one. I’ve seen the measurements for cutting in the workshop manual so I’ll be sure to check and check again before cutting. Thankyou!!

You’re welcome. Some owners like to soak the seals in oil at least overnight. They will then expand and be a tighter fit in the sump groove.

Make sure that you cut the cork seal at right angles to the seal and not parallel to the sump gasket face.
There is no need for any sealant or goo. If done right then the cork seals itself.
