I have just renewed my insurance and it includes an agreed valuation document this is ensures an agreed amount if the car is written off, the firm states that the vehicle has to be valued independently my question is can I take it to any garage and have this done or does it have to be a classic car specialist?

I would take it to a classic car specialist.
You may have to pay for a written valuation but to me it is worth the effort.
Make sure that the valuation is on headed note paper showing a registered business number.
You cannot have too much detail on the valuation.
Make sure that all modifications are listed.

The MMOC can also provide valuations, contact the Derby Office.
There is a fee, which is higher if you are a non-member, but it's worth enquiring. It might be easier than finding and going to a classic specialist, depending where you live.
