I have started getting a knocking sound coming from the fuel pump with approx 6 second interval between each knock anyone know what it might be?

Without knowing how long you have had the car and what you know about it, and whether this is with the engine running or stationary, is the 'knock' the regular tapping of the fuel pump as it operates? They all make a noise, you may not have noticed it before?

It’s doing when both stationary and when it’s running I’ve not had the car long so I’m not sure if its just normal

Hi, when I said 'stationary', I meant the engine itself, not the car. With the engine running, even if the car not moving, the pump should tick, although one would expect it to tick a bit faster when actually driving. I don't think you should worry about this, its normal.

Just to add to the above, if the car has been out of use for a few hours/days, when you turn the ignition on you will hear the pump click rapidly as it fills up the carb float chamber. Then it should slow down and stop until you fire the engine up. It will then periodically tick as it maintains the fuel level in the float chamber so the engine can continue to draw fuel.
