Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi, I’m new on here and need some help please.
I have a 1968 Morris minor 1.1 petrol saloon that just won’t start.
She has turns over but won’t run.. we had a problem with a lack of current to the ignition switch but could get her running by bypassing this with a wire straight to the solenoid, battery and starter motor. She’d start and then run fine with lights on the dash..
this intermittent fault has now become permanent and my mechanic is at a loss.. please can you give me some suggestions? We replaced the spark plugs, dizzy and leads but still nothing.
The replacement rotar arm was catching the dizzy cap .. what make of rotar arm is best?

Can you post a photo showing the area of battery, solenoid, coil. When you say lights on dash, which ones and how did they behave as you switched on and started? This sounds really basic, I would look for a new mechanic - nobody with any experience should be at a loss here.
This is irrelevant, but humour me: what colour is the car and how many doors does it have?

1). He isn't a mechanic.
2). Contact the "Distributor Doctor" (Just do a google search or whatever). He sells the most reliable ignition parts. There is a lot of cheap rubbish on the market.

We could be OK here, it's sounding less generic, it's actually detailing a problem.

Mmm, time will tell, but "1.1 petrol saloon" caused a minor ( ) twitch in the needle on my BS meter.

I realise most of us would specify 1098cc., but, the 948cc engine block does have 950 cast onto it.
My daily car is 1329cc but is usually written a 1.33litre.
However, suspicions will diminish when the old girl comes back with more information.

And, of course, we always specify 'petrol' to distinguish them from all the diesel ones that were produced...
