Hello all,
I've just replaced my door striker plate with a 2 door item in the hope that it would resolve my door alignment issue.
Basically the door needs to go in another 10mm (roughly) in order to shut properly. I have adjusted the striker plate inwards as much as is possible but it's still miles away (Please have a look at the pics of the door shut as it is and as it should be (with the help of the wall and a golf club!)
There is zero play in the door hinges and everything seems to line up nicely, just needs to go in further than the adjustment will allow.
Any ideas please folks?

Have you tried moving the hinges further to the right (outwards) If it cures the problem you might find the wing needs realigning.

As the door shuts fully with the aid of the golf club, is it possible you have moved the striker plate too far in and the door catch is latching on the spring loaded latch on the striker plate and not reaching the end of the striker plate.

I did try and capture an image of the itnernals but alas could not but I can confirm that the retractable bolt on the door is about 10mm away from the large quadrant on the striker plate. It does look like it needs moving in drastically!

Les, I appreciate the advice but the door has not moved and it used to be okay, not great but has gotten worse. I thought a new Striker would resolve it but nope. and I don't think any amount of moving the front of the door will get the space I need back.

I have noticed though that the metalwork around the retractable bolt on the door is worn (not too surprising when you consider it's a 1959 car) and that seems to move back and forth about 7mm

The striker plate should be brought outwards not inwards to get the door aligned as it should be.
The bracket into which the door pin fits also needs to be brought outwards.
Make sure that the rubber buffer is fitted to the alignment pin.

Yes exactly as I described in my previous post, the striker plate is too far in, the latch on the door should engage to the end of the plate, at the moment it is engaging on the spring loaded catch on the striker plate move the striker plate back out.

The brass door catch should engage on the end of the striker plate, red arrow.
