where is the best place to get new front wheel cylinders

East Sussex Minors are an excellent supplier. "Pattern" or "Genuine Lockheed" cylinders are available. The Lockheed are more expensive but made in England. Make sure you buy the correct cylinders for the age of your car. For instance, the brake drums are larger (8 inch) in the late cars. You may find when you come to remove the old cylinders that the fixings are very corroded. Make sure that you have the correct sized spanners at hand. It would be advisable to order new fixings at the same time as the cylinders.

Before saving a few pounds buying Patten cylinders I would recommend you do a search on this forum. I have fitted them, and ended up replacing them very soon due to these failing. I understand the pattern rear cylinders are a lot better

The “Genuine Lockheed” I bought last month lasted 10 minutes. I’ve replaced with “pattern” now.

The thread fell out of the bleed screw hole on the first one.
The pattern ones were far from smooth and stuck when testing. I cleaned out and polished the bores gently with 1000 grit wet and dry paper then a bit of Autosol polish. Assembled with plenty of red rubber grease they are fairing well so far.

It seems neither are built particularly well!

I’ve used the Lockheed type as sold by ESM and they were absolutely fine. I wasn’t going to skimp and buy pattern cylinders on something as vital as brakes.

Yes, I fitted Lockheed about two and half years ago and they are still fine. I thought it better than using 'pattern' ones.
