Good afternoon, everybody

Chloe and I have been away for a long weekend, Chloe got a lift into work this morning because I had some running around to do this afternoon, After getting into the car, I pulled the choke out and felt something go Twang, Then the choke knob became all floppy, By floppy, I mean no resistance when you pull it out and push it back in again, I thought then that the cable had maybe snapped but it wasn’t 100% sure so I had three attempts to start her and although she did start, she had a splitter and then stalled straightaway, Is there anywhere of getting her to start and stair running on my own as there is nobody around to help? ?

if you have the sort of starter solenoid that you can operate from under the bonnet.

put the ign on
open the bonnet
set the choke lever manually, and press the starter solenoid button,
leave it to warm up a little and push the choke lever in as you normally would the choke on the dash,

if not
pump the throtthe a few times to get some fuel to flow,
start it as normal, but give litte pumps on the throttle as it starts to get the revs up a little, then you can hold the revs on the throttle for a little while until its happy to idle,

Hi Steve

I’m not sure it has a button under the bullet, so I will have to try your second option, I’m slightly worried that pumping on the accelerator pedal before I turn the key will flood her and even if she does start I think she will only Splutter and die or is it a case of if she does just keep repeating the process and hope that eventually she will stay running?

——— similar to above, set the choke by hand, from under the bonnet. Go back inside start car as normal, after a while, switch off, go back under the bonnet and close the choke. Back inside start and drive off.

Pumping the throttle prior to starting in a Minor won't cause any flooding; all it's doing is opening the throttle butterfly, not pumping any fuel.

In warm weather like this, it should start fairly easily without any choke, just by partially holding the throttle pedal down if need be while cranking the engine, then holding it at a steady speed until it warms up enough (usually after a few seconds).

The button Steve is referring to is usually either red or black in colour, situated on the bulkhead, as seen being operated in this video:

Note, you need to have the ignition switched on to enable the engine to start.

SU carburetors do not have accelerator pumps, so operating the throttle pedal will have no effect.

I answered the duplicate in "General" before scrolling to this.

Thx guys , all sorted , took a few attempts but got her running by keeping my foot on the gas as I turn the key, also called into a garage to get them to take a Quick Look, the cable had come loose at the carb end but all fixed and working again

Good to hear it was a simple fix.
Something which I suggested in my reply in "General".
i.e. "The end of the cable might have only pulled out of that mechanism and still be intact."
