sticking jet / weak spring

afternoon all!

I recently replaced my carb with a new one from ESM - all went well, with the needle being adjusted so that the cylinder returns with a nice thud after lifting the pin.

However, whenever i need to use choke to start (not normally an issue in the summer, mind), the jet never returns right back in, with maybe 1mm or a little more remaining outside the carb. This is fixed by a slight push up.

I've tried adjusting the choke cable to it pushes on the return arm when removing the choke, but to no avail. Could it be a weak return spring, as confused why the cylinder has the nice clunk (suggesting centred jet) but choke won't return fully.

Sounds as if you have attached the choke cable to the wrong side of the lever on the carburettor

I had a similar problem with an MG midget recently. The choke cable was new and connected properly.

I solved my challenge by polishing the jet with a little autosol. It was then re centered and now works a treat.

You say that adjusting the cable has not worked. Are you sure there's a little bit of slack in the cable before it operated the linkage?
This has happened to me in the past but the cable inner was too taught.
