Morris minor van carpets

Hi all, I’m at the moment restoring a Morris minor van, but I’m really stuck with what to do regarding the interior, the van is being built to hopefully concourse standard or as very close to it as possible.
But should it have underlay and carpets, as I’m really impressed with the how the cab has turned out I almost think I could spoil the paintwork by covering it. Also can I put the new heater in and parcel shelf and main beam switch, I really don’t won’t to put things in place if I have to remove them if carpets etc have to be fitted.
Any advice would be more than welcome, many thanks Rob.

The commercial vehicles had rubber mats, so if you’re a ‘want to be original’ type of guy, there you go. ( if you can find them) Personally I’ve fitted carpets for a bit more comfort and sound proofing. I’ve one or two other modifications as well, as complete originality isn’t too high on my agenda. I spent a few years restoring the van so want a bit of ‘luxury’ for my efforts.

You might consider getting a copy of Original Morris Minor by Ray Newell, if you like originality.

It was a one piece moulded rubber mat covering the whole cab floor, under the seats, over the transmission tunnel and gearbox cover. I removed what was left of mine in the 80’s, it was ripped to pieces, trapping moisture, so like Les I replaced it with carpet.

Ok, great info, I really need to put more thought into this. My cab is absolutely beautiful to look at and really wanted to keep it visible. Thank so much, Rob.

Why not just use aftermarket minor rubber overmats to protect floor from feet and leave the rest exposed.

Bill, you’ve hit the nail on the head ! I’m going to hopefully get as close as possible to the original rubber mats and definitely have the other parts of the floor exposed, great idea!!
Many thanks Rob

I went with theses in my saloon, I wanted to keep original carpets but protect them from further wear, they are a good fit.
