ello friends, thinking of a kit for the front of splitty, has anyone got or tried gas or oil tele kits from ESM, or others, hopfully someone has before i hand over my hard earned ,cheers steve

Yep, I've got Gas SPAX on mine and they are much better than the originals, BUT the brackets that they came with were a joke and don't line up and have to have bits chopped off to make them fit!

If you are going to use those type (Birmingham) then I'd weld a spreader plate at the top. When they are fitted they work fine though.

Are you upgrading the engine in the split-screen? If not then I would keep the original dampers personally.

Can't give you any info on the tele dampers, but seeing your comment on going over personhole covers, I have found that when crossing speed humps I get a much smoother ride if I apply the brakes slightly, I can only assume that this has the effect of taking up all the possible slack that may be in the system. I've tested this out by using the brakes whilst under power.

I have found out, when going over speedbumps, it really helps if you apply the clutch, so the whole system is tension-free. Well it works on a modern FWD car anyway

It's (I've read) standard practice when rallying if you don't want to leave the ground at a jump (to keep the car balanced at the other side) to gently apply the brakes just bafore the crest. It compresses the suspension as it trys to exapand as the weight of the car crosses the hump. I've done it for years with hump back bridges - it means you don't get that horrid feeling in your stomach - or you can accelerate very slightly to upset your passengers.

I've managed to sort out one of the nasty sounding bump/rattles - usually going over a "step" type bump - you know, like a ridge (not a gentle undulation).

The near-side font would thump then rattle. Occasionally it would clonk on braking. After a bit of work (ESM - they have all the bits at hand - it would take me a several weeks of trying to dismantle & find the culprit) it turned out to be the fulcrum pin. There were a couple of flats worn on it...

Might be worth checking next time you have it in bits!

colin, thats exactly the thing im talking about,humps no problems, its the big holes that u dont always see or get forced into when someones coming the other way, will check it out ,cheers steve
