1098cc 1969 looked into sorting choke as it’s never been right since I got car , discovered the stud holding the choke bracket in was broke off , took bracket off with the inner spring got old stud out and one from an old carb. Must admit having fun getting the inner bigger spring in correct position as I never saw which way it sat.
It seems once fitted the bracket when choke is on pulls around screw of throttle opening throttle a bit , does this sound right , also the choke appears to turns very little
I am thinking I am going to have to remove throttle bracket to get the choke bracket on.
Any constructive advice is welcome,
So try again tomorrow evening to see if I can get the spring into a position it does something, it’s the bigger spring the smaller one is still on bracket and it seems to be the one that returns choke to off when cable button pushed in. Thanks in advance.

Ok most probably know this but just in case it helps someone else.
I could not get the choke return arm spring on , so took carb off and found you have to remove the choke lever clip and take off /then there’s a round peg on carb for one catch of the spring and another on the actual bracket it’s just a we slot you put the spring ends into these positions and spin round until sitting in right position and tighten centre stud
refit the arm to the choke and that’s it very easy but would be very difficult to do in situ unless your more supple than me.

Sorry, I'm having trouble understanding to which parts you are referring. The choke cable is solid. When you pull on the knob, it lowers the jet to enrich the mixture. When you push the knob in, the jet is raised. There is no return spring involved. The cable passes through the body of the carb, not a separate bracket. The throttle cable passes through a bracket that fits on the same studs (from the manifold) as the main body of the carburettor. There is a throttle return spring that mounts on a bracket usually attached to the exhaust-manifold joint clamp.

Could you post a photo of the part that has broken? Are you referring to the butterfly internal to the carburettor?

Yes there is a return spring helps to assist in turning choke right off , it’s right behind the choke bracket the stud holding bracket on goes through the centre of it. As in photo if you can make it out. Sorry did not take photo when carb was off. It’s quite a strong spring.

Ah, now I understand. Good job on fitting the spring. The cam acting on the throttle screw is a fast idle device and the operation you describe is completely correct. The screw should be set so that with the choke off, there should be no contact between the screw and cam; the throttle stop screw is controlling the idle speed. As the chole is operated, then the cam acts on the screw and increases the idle speed.
