Hi everyone!
My rear door strap won't hold the door open on one side. They are not particularly strong at holding anyway, but the offside one won't stay open at all.
It looks as it should, the strap has all the right curves and stuff, and if I gently push down on the domed nut which is the top of the spring loaded detent pin, it does stay open., but as soon as i lift asway, the door shuts.
Also, that spring loaded pin appears to be slightly 'loose' when it's meant to be pushing down, like it's run out of travel.
Does the domed nut mean there is some kind of adjustment?
I have tried a bit of fiddling, but it all seems to come back to the spring loaded pin not 'pushing 'down hard enough.
Any suggestions most welcome!

OK!
So they are adjustable to a degree.
The spring tension can be reset somewhat, and the amount of 'push down' travel can be altered.
You have to undo the four brass screws that hold the plate onto the car's interior woodwork and then ease the plate over the strap end.
You'll then need a small spanner or socket to go over the domed nut, and a stout pair of grips on the ball end of the sprung pin to get the nut to undo.
Hopefully the nut will undo and the pin, with its associated spring will come straight out.
The next thing I did was simply stretch the spring so it was up the the bottom of the threads. It isn't a lot, but i suspect there's been a bit of 'relaxing' over 50 years!
There's a fair amount of thread in the domed nut and the higher the nut, further down its travel the pin goes before it stops, I noticed before, when installed, you could tap the top of the nut with a finger and hear a slight rattle so it was stopping before it fully bore down on the strap.
i simply adjusted the nut up until the pin was definitely pushing down nice and firmly onto the strap.
Reassembled it and... it works. It isn't super firm, but its there enough to hold the door open...So there you go!
