Rear lights 63 model

I have a 63 model that has the older type of rear lights as on the 62 and earlier cars, these were original equipment but they don't seem to fit right on wings, as they are not facing straight and seem to go out at an angle ( both facing outwards ), I have tried swapping them around but that makes no difference, can anyone tell me if this is normal or has it been fitted with the wrong lights?

Mines a 62 std rear light as far as I know just had additional amber indicators fitted.
Don't know if the pic helps.

Probably a bit late now, as the separate indicator lenses have been fitted to both cars featured in this thread but if it is of interest, you might like to check out the Dual Personality Minors Facebook page.https://www.facebook.com/groups/dualper ... risminors/ Under the 'Files' tab I have given a step by step guide as to how I installed amber indicators whilst retaining the original red lenses.

It would be remiss of me not to mention the considerable help I received from 'geoberni' in achieving all this.

If anyone can't access the F/b group, I would be happy to send it via a PM.

A fellow Moggy owner followed me to a Classic Car show yesterday and was keen to tell me how effective the amber indicators were.......as well as the brake lights.

Whilst I've got your attention, may I put in another plug for the DP register please. Basically, any vehicle manufactured between Sept '62 and October '64 is almost certainly a Dual Personality Minor and together with my co-registrar we are trying to record as many surviving DP Minors as possible on the register.

Look out for the DPR stand at the National, for all you need to know......and probably a lot that you don't! :D

Mine had the rear beehive amber indicators fitted when I purchased the car, I've replaced the front side light lenses with amber as indicators only and the side lights are now in the headlights.

It sounds like you have late wings.

The rear wings on this period (1963)have the holes in a different place changing lhe location of the lights. . The earlier lights fit the late wings , but not in the original location-they are higher Most restored cars like mine have them fitted in the wrong location

It seems my Minor has been fitted with the wrong lights maybe from a Midget or Sprite, they are meant to fit on a flat surface, whereas the minor ones are handed.

It sounds like it. The correct light has a contoured base which is thicker than the sprite ones. They fit onto new wings, but are slightly higher than the original location of factory wings as they changed the predrilled hole location. I don't think most people notice this detail

I will wait and see what comes along later as for now these lights are ok, one of the past owners had wired them the wrong way around and I had brake lights when I turned the side light on and vice versa.

Have you got the gasket in place?

It's a long time since I fitted mine but it sounds like you may have shorten the bolt

There's a gasket under the lens and under the base.....
Note the base gasket was originally handed to match the base (8 & 9), these days they are not...
