Hi guys, can a normal grease gun be used with hypoid oil in it, I only ask as I need to lubricate the steering rack and having a nipple on it as you will well know,an oil injector type can can't be used. The other thing is I have a push grease gun,but has got grease residue in it,but could that be used?thanks all

As far as I know, if you use an ordinary grease gun with oil in it, it will leak.
I bought a small push action oil gun specifically to oil the steering rack.
This is the type of thing. I forget where I got mine from now.

I would not go our and buy a oil gun just for the purpose of lubricating the steering rack.
The steering rack is the only place you would use it
Just try your existing grease gun and see what happens.
Any residual grease in the gun will not matter. Many use a mixture of grease and oil. The most important thing is that the steering rack has some lubricant inside it.

It's worth a try I suppose. I did try and my grease gun leaked oil everywhere!

I use one like the one shown in Stephen's link.It works fine but does leak a bit while in storage, so I keep it in a plastic bag and wipe it over before use.
Any job involving oil and/or grease is likely to be a bit messy!
