is there any way to find out what the key code the rear boot lock should be. as neither of the keys which came with the car fit.

Yes if it's an original lock. The originals are marked on the spindle but they don't mark the key series letters only the numbers. The replacement locks are not marked with the key number. Here is an original lock of mine. I have obscured two digits.

If you don't have a key code marked one option is to take the lock to a master locksmith and they can key the lock to make one of your existing keys fit.
