It seems a silly fuss in a way........But...... In these days of Health and Safety, having a car with a hot engine filling up with fuel over the top of the distributor etc perhaps seems a little potentially dangerous? Quite a lot of older cars have the fuel tank in with the engine actually. I don't own any. Partly from choice.

It does remind me of an old thread on these forums of an owner who lost their Minor due to fuel dripping onto their engine while they were driving (and posting the photos in the thread as they watched it from a safe distance).

I noticed the video had the various YT comments blaming the company, blaming the staff, blaming the owner (since apparently they should know better) and finally others suggesting he should have bought a petrol can and kept filling it up by the can - which I have to amit crossed my mind as I watched the video.

I was at Esso earlier and I filled up with the boot lid open. I had just replaced the fuel sender gasket and I wanted to make sure there were no leaks. Nobody paid any attention at all.

I wonder what they would do if a Hillman Imp driver wanted to fill up?

Would they recognise the engine is in the back and the fuel tank, with filler nozzle, is under the bonnet.... :-?

The implication I got was that anything open must be closed since they mentioned doors as well, though that's presumably to lessen the chance of people driving off, but it's not like they couldn't just open the closed doors and drive off anyway.

I wonder how they would react if you wanted to fill up something like this:-
