Front indicators

Hi,

I have a 1959 Morris Minor with separate single filament front indicator bulbs.
One has badly corroded and the bulb fused to the holder so I have ordered a whole new assembly.
I have noticed that there is only a single wire coming from the assembly on both sides - does that seem right?
Thank you
Andy

I'm thinking that these indicators were added later, as a UK 1959 car would have originally had trafficators. If the existing assemblies have only one wire (feed), they are probably earthed through the screws fixing them to the metal wings rather than having an earth wire......

Yes. Probably....
Simply because on a '59 they are not factory fit, so are an aftermarket addition.
Often, an aftermarket single filament lamp holder only has a supply connection and earth is via the body fixing.

Yes that’s sounds normal. One live wire and the circuit is completed to earth via the metal body of the fitting being bolted to the body. The later fittings which have a side lamp and an indicator lamp only have one wire to each bulb.

Yes, that's exactly how it is on my car - aftermarket indicators fitted which earth through the screws into the wings.....

Thanks everyone.
That makes sense - it still has its original working trafficators, so an upgrade done at some point.
