Engine ID
I am advised this is a 1275.Could someone please advise what it is.

It is indeed a 1275cc 'A' Series in line engine. Possibly from a 1275cc Marina as there are engine mount holes half way down the block and the block casting number 12G2398 relates to a 1275cc Pre 'A' Plus Marina engine.
The head appears to have been changed to one with possibly larger valves. The Marina did not have the sculpting around the front top of the head.

If not seized and as it is an unknown quantity I would be offering a starting price of between £400 and £450 as there are many of the parts required to fit a 1275cc engine to a Minor included.

Cylinder head is probably from a Metro Turbo, which had the sculpting around the thermostat area - worth a good few quid on its own.

The original colour of Metro turbo engines and cylinder heads was red.
Whilst the turbo cylinder head is worth some money when it goes wrong it is more expensive.
The valve stems are sodium filled so as to keep them cool so larger valve stem O.D. and larger I.D. valve guides to suit.
The valve collets are three groove.
All of those parts are expensive to the point where if it requires new valves etc it may be better to move the head on and fit a standard or lightly modified 940 head
You only need the MG Metro turbo head if you are running a turbo.
