Split pin sizes - bonnet release

Hi all

I’ve had the bonnet release for my morris minor 1000 apart and refurbed. Every single split pin was severely corroded and was broken when taking them out. Does anyone know what size the split pins are I need to look for please? I bloomin hate the things at the best of times and was considering trying to find an alternative but I’ll try and find the right sized pins first.

I am not sure of the size but after fighting many corroded split pins over the years I bought an assortment box of stainless steel Imperial sizes split pins a while back. Spaulding Fasteners I think. I also have assorted Imperial sized screws, nuts, washers etc. if you’re in classic car ownership for the long haul I’d recommend doing this.

The small, more modern "R" clips can be a better idea. Worth a look at anyway

Great. It gets confusing with all the different threads, UNF, UNC etc etc. Although I am not young, I didn’t grow up learning the Imperial measurement system either and I get confused by fractions. A steep learning curve!

Quite honestly, an assorted box of Split Pins is the best way to go.
A split pin should never be used to restrain much 'force'; they are only securing devices to stop things coming undone or falling apart, e.g. with Castellated Nuts, or Pivot Pins, etc.

Brilliant - Thankyou all..!! Just ordered an assorted box of split pins from Spalding Fasteners - I’ll keep my eye out at shows and car boots to keep adding to the collection.
