Clutch Pedal Squeak

I have recently overhauled the front and rear suspension on my car. This has made the car much quieter to drive and I am now noticing other squeaks and rattles. The steering column rattled so I oiled the 2x felt bushes between inner and outer steering column and that is now sorted.

When the clutch pedal is operated it makes a metallic squeak and if I let the pedal go it comes back up with a bit of a loud clunk too.

Clutch is 8 months old and only 2,000 miles in. Clutch operation is completely fine, no issues there.

The squeak seems to be pedal rather than linkage related.

I have never investigated an issue like this before. I have looked at the parts diagram on the Moss website.

How should I investigate this and what might need changing/oiling?

Best Wishes,

Stephen

Well I'd get the floor up and take a look, but as I recall you don't have a SII, so you can get to yours from underneath.

The Clunk is most probably the pedal hitting the underside of the floor.
ESM do sell a foam pad for that, but you may have something suitable laying about the workshop/garage. It's item 15 on the Moss Drawing.

Have you still got the sponge rubber sealing pad on the clutch pedal AAA1938 ?

Oil the two bronze oilite bushes on the clutch pedal and brake shaft.

Thanks Berni. Ah yes the "clutch pedal draught seal" on ESM. Yes I have a Series V. I'll get under the car soon. I'll need an assistant to operate the pedal topside and I'll listen for the squeak.

I am not sure. I'll have to check. Can I oil those bushes without removing or should I remove and soak in oil?

The sealing pad is the same as that listed by ESM

Yes just dribble some light oil and wiggle the shaft.

(If you are able to I would strip the whole lot down, clean inspect and grease it including the brake pedal bushes.)

Maybe the arm of the pedal is rubbing on the side of the aperture in the cover

When reading your question, my first thought was exactly what Les has suggested. This may be caused by the positinn of the gearbox cover (loosen all screws and adjust) or because of wear in the clutch pedal/brake pedal shaft/associated bushes.
