Hi gang I have an engine fan I am thinking of using instead of the electric fan as it stopped working.I have a fan and it's strengthener. I notice the pulley on the water pump has a sort of spacer on the front that the bolts go through before they go into the pulley. What is the purpose of the spacer. It is quite thick metal. Can I bolt the fan directly on to the spacer please.

If it looks the same as the strengthening plate you have bought, it’s probably the original one that has been left in place.

The strengthening plate should be outside the fan blade, so that it is bolted on top of the fan blade......you only need the one.

Yes, if it is indeed the old plate, remove, and as above, fit last. Or indeed fit the new one.

Make sure that the spacer has not been fitted so as to allow the original fan to clear any obstruction.
There should be no spacer between the fan and water pump.
