Right, I'm going to see if I can make any sense of the body number (or production line numbers) on the Saloons, Travellers and Convertibles.

So, if anyone can help, the information would be very useful and kept in the strictest confidence (if wished).

What I am after is the number on the little plate to the top right of the bulkhead (when looking under the bonnet). I will also need the car's chassis number and (if possible) date of manufacture (or registration).

Hopefully, when I have enough details, I will perhaps be able to make sense of the numbering scheme and provide a list for Moggy owners to make use of (for dating and type clarification). I'm not interested in the registration or the owner's details.

So can anyone who can provide me with these details either PM me or e-mail me.

Just out of interest Andrew, if you were to own a non-lcv, what type would be your preference?

I'd go for the Convertible I think, but with a Saloon for the winter. Never been much of a one for Travellers, I'm afraid.

I never took it as personal - you were taller than me in the arena, so I wouldn't argue anyway. But hey, wants wrong with a garden shed anyway, there's room for a train set in there!

Erm, I would at the moment as I think that pickups are VERY nice.

Mind you there was a time when I really disliked travellers, vans, pickups and convertibles...

Now I just dislike convertibles!

Well, a few reasons really:

I don't like the sun beating down on my head (as I'm not one for hats!) I think it can be a bit dodgy when driving.

I don't like attention (especially if waiting in a traffic jam with the top down).

I'm not keen on the zero security aspect of a convertible.

Not too keen on the structure of a convertible. I like the idea of a tin-top to keep everything together or in my opinion a separate chassis (LCV style) should have been used.

Very, very cold in winter and the rear window mists up because the car seems to be very damp inside all the time. I used to own an MG midget and it put me off convertibles!

I prefer the look of the roof of saloons. I think it's neat and the convertible top (or lack of it) makes it look messy.

Plus, (and this is the sad reason) I think convertibles are a bit 'special' and I like the underdog. I much prefer a 'working' car than a 'show-off' car, and to me the convertible smacks of showing off!!

I'm sure a lot of people love convertibles, but I'm just not too keen on them.

Yes, I have to say (did say?) I'd want a tin top too, for winter and the days when I wasn't in a showy off mood.

My brother, an ex car salesman, tells me that older convertible cars can also have a very high turnover rate, caused by people liking the idea in summer and finding them draughty, etc in winter.

But for all that, I'd still like a nice one though

Tell what might have appealed to you Cam when I went along to the Chersey Branch on monday they had a member with what I think was a 54 2dr that has a steel slinding sunroof, something I could not remember seeing on a moggie before.

Actually Kevin, I'm not a HUGE fan of sunroofs either! I presume if that type was a steel one then it opened by sliding under the headlining?? Unlike the webasto types that just fold up...
