I am trying to do things on the cheap again, so is it alright to...
Paint hammerite straight onto etch primer? and
Spray stonechip onto hammerite?

Is it the useless modern Hammerite or the original solvent based?

Yes.... useless stuff in my experience especially from a spray can and a shadow of the original type.... but less likely to react with other paint as its so weak and washy and dosent stick or dry properly
